Now, I’m trying not to be biased, but I just can’t help myself sometimes. Diana Deaver’s photography never ceases to amaze me! Therefore, I’m going to have to post yet another shoot that she worked on last week, with the beautiful models Vanessa Sandler and Camille Key. To give some credit to others that worked on the shoot… the jewelry was made by “Beaded Jewels by G”…hair was styled by Jessica O’Brien….make-up was done by Cora Wilke.

College of Charleston Magazine

By: Robbin Watson, Founder of My Charleston Fashion
I don’t think I can express my excitement when I got home yesterday and saw my fashion-themed College of Charleston Magazine sitting in my mailbox. The thought of the College of Charleston dedicating their whole magazine to local designers….well, that just proves that Charleston is lovin’ their fashion these days!
With Carol Hannah Whitfield on the cover, I immediately found her feature story and started reading up. Is it just me or does it seem like her and Logan might be more than friends?? (But enough of that, we aren’t into gossip over here at MCF). It really gave me some insight into who Carol Hannah is and the difficulties she faced when told by the TV network that if she shared her exciting Project Runway news with anyone, she would be fined 1 million dollars. Wowzers!
Other local designers were featured in the magazine as well, such as Rachel Gordon (CFW Emerging Designer Competitor) and Shelley Smith, both College of Charleston graduates. Shelly describes fashion designing as a form of art, while Rachel talks about how with each piece she creates, she is hoping ” that the owner will become one with her inner goddess when she puts it on.”

Fashion Around The World

My Charleston Fashion Writer / D.C. Correspondent
“Fashion Around the World”
Last week, from February 15-21st, Washington D.C. held its bi-annual Fashion Week for 2010. Designers appeared from all over the world, including Argenting, Cote d’Ivoire, Colombia, Ghana, Iran, Italy, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Serbia, Thailand, and the United States.
A remarkable appeal for Washington D.C. it its international culture. D.C. is renowned for its international affairs, international dining, and of course, its international fashion. Fittingly, the finest and most exquisite collections were debuted in the International Couture Collections Show at the Embassy of France.
Shazray Khan’s collection was definitely my favorite. Her designs sparkle with bright colors and pizzazz. Notably, her signature cocktail jackets covered with swarofski crystals, hand embroidered chrysanthemums, and semi-precious stones are her biggest novelty.
Shazray is a native of Lahore, Pakistan and currently resides in the Greater Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. She studied at the International Academy of Design and Technology in Canada. She is a young designer with lots of talent and creativity. We will be seeing a lot of her collections in the coming years hopefully.
So, be sure to dazzle yourself and find a long, shimmering bright cocktail jacket as the weather begins to shift to the high 60s in Charleston. It might be a while for me up in the North to see that kind of temperature increase, but it sure doesn’t hurt to be prepared!
